Jennifer Truman Announces Run for Raleigh City Council District D

Local designer Jennifer Truman is running for Raleigh City Council in District D.

Jennifer Truman is running for Raleigh City Council in November of 2022 because she believes it’s time to return the conversation to how we can build a different and better future for Raleigh.

Raleigh is at a critical moment in its growth. Dozens of new residents move to the city each day. Raleigh’s leadership and the voters in November, have critical decisions to make on how to equitably and sustainably provide housing, quality of life, and opportunity to welcome new neighbors and support current residents. Jennifer Truman is optimistic that finding a balance is possible.

“As a leader, I start with listening and optimism. As a long time resident and advocate in Raleigh, District D and the surrounding communities, I know optimistic and engaged leadership is just what we need,” Truman writes.

Her policy priorities include a focus on equitable and sustainable growth, budget that reflects our people and values, and transit and walkability. She has been an outspoken community advocate on several issues related to these topics, including recent support for ending parking minimums, legalizing tiny homes, accessory dwelling units and missing middle housing, as well as supporting the affordable housing bond.

Jennifer Truman is a designer who works for local architecture firm Matthew Konar Architect, which designs restaurants, bars and other food concepts, including Raleigh favorites Two Roosters, Cortez, and The Cardinal and many more. Her work as a designer informs her leadership.

Truman was 1 of 5 finalists for the 2020 District D appointment after Saige Martin resigned. City Council appointed Stormie Forte, current City Councilor to fill the vacancy. Truman has been an active community leader for years, serving as an officer in the SouthWest CAC, now SouthWest Raleigh Community Engagement Forum, since 2016, on the Raleigh Transit Authority since 2021, as well as on the Dix Edge Study Community Leader Group from 2019-2021, and on the Dix Park Master Plan Program Workgroup from 2017-2019.
